A Starting Point To Move To More Than Mundane
We may have all encountered at times those persons who without all of the hype and noise demonstrate some form of characteristic that just jumps out at us and may even pique our curiosity. Hey, it may even be in us as well as we read this article. It’s not like we go around asking persons to take an Intelligence Quotient (IQ) test, but something sticks out that shows a trait of a high IQ. Heck!! we can even use some of the following characteristics to identify if we are also in that higher range.
The key thing is that there are some observable signs and behaviours of intelligence that seem a bit more practical and not just theoretical. This is also based on years of historical and psychological research and patterns that can be used as the general guide, which look at areas of general mental capacity to problem solving, progressive movement in life and adaptibility in various situations. In here is incorporated the comparison of your reasoning skills, and memory, verbal ability and pattern recognition as well to define your IQ.

Part of this also guides how person’s mental health and even future performance can develop. Be minded that intelligence exists on many levels and cannot just be negated to just one area of discipline or domain. Therefore it can be domain-based in areas such as Art, Science, Music, Language, Sport and Math and so on.
Even though we look at specific indicators, it is not limited to just a linear definition, as there are many types of intelligence, such as emotional intelligence and social intelligence or even general intelligence. Taken into consideration are things such as specific expertise and even cognitive capability.
Areas of High Intelligence
Never Reveal Your Next Move – As easy as this sounds, often times in order to convince ourselves of progress, we may tend to share information on what we may have in mind with persons in general. Maybe and idea to start a business or to create a solution for a problem. The key thing is like a chess game or game of checkers and even in war, keeping your next couple of moves private can prevent sabotage, premature loss of motivation and even keep peer judgement at bay.
Remain Curious – Many of us may have heard of the age old proverb, “Curiosity Killed The Cat…” As such, in this instance, we are looking at being curious of how we can learn a new topic or skillset or even to find a solution. Therefore this form of being curious is not of being malicious and troubling in other’s affairs.
Have High Self-Control – This at times can make or break many persons in times of crisis. The ability to manage our emotions and impluse behaviour when faced with uncertain circumstances can lead to greater success in the long term. Just imagine you being the captain of your own ship and faced with a debacle of sorts and you have to bring everything back to order. The level of control also influences the level of thinking and rationalisation, and minimizes possible negative behaviour. This allows you to think clearly.

Speak Less & Listen More – Here it is that we know knowledge is power, therefore if we sit in a room and listen more you can actually look even more intelligent while learning something new. Additionally like Abraham Lincoln said – …”It is better to remain silent be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt…” With this as well, you can gain also gain insider information from the person doing the talking or for others it makes them feel understood and cared for. As such when you do speak, it also puts you in a dominant position, as people will listen, since you do speak less and listen more.
Great Sense of Humor – This is one psychological resource, that enables you to find and deal with contraditions while reframing threatening situations. Additionally this is also a can reduce tension, which can impact thinking clarity while protecting against psychological distress. A good sense of humor also enhances physical health and can also builds relationships without all of the formality. It can also be used to diffuse an opponents position as well when used strategically.
Never Spread Rumors – A person with higher intelligence also look to optimise their use of time. This means then that the time to spread rumors and possibly false information takes away from them enhancing their own position in another area. Additionally spreading the rumor makes you the conduit in the process whether its to get back at someone or to damage someone’s reputation. The act of doing such can be humiliating and just imagine if it happened to you! Now how intelligent would that be?

Choose Simplicity Over Unnecessary Complications – Some persons may know this as Keep It Simple Silly (KISS). There is the general thought process that the best things in life are the simple things, and simplicity leads to success. Therefore if a decision has to be made, or clarity and efficiency is important in a situation it is significantly easier, and your heart rate doesn’t fluctuate in panic. This also eliminates “complexity bias” where we think that a complex solution is better than a simple one, it also saves us time.
Be True To Yourself – There is only one you! Additionally this looks at how you can emphasize the importance of your self-awareness and your authenticity. Not losing yourself and identity in the noise of the crowd. Along with this, is how you recognise your own values and beliefs while maintaing your integrity and self respect.
Go With The Flow – Those persons who understand this know that there is less stress by letting some situations unfold naturally, instead of working to control of those said situations. In this formula include the ability to trust the process and embrace spontaneity. With high intelligence, you don’t wate time worrying, nor do you get too rigid but remain flexible and open-minded to adjust to the possible outcome of the situation. This also shows that you can solve problems and find solutions quickly.

You Are Not Easily Distracted – The pop-ups and the time spent scrolling and watching reels can be part of your distraction if you are doing your work. However, with a higher intelligence, when its time to buckle down and get the job done, the focus is there. So the notification has little or no impact – as you’ve got your focus intact.
Not Afraid To Ask For Help – This also means that your ego is in check, when you ask for help, and that you are leveraging the support of others to solve complicated problems. This enhances the learning process as well and also act to increase efficiency. Additionally asking for help is like taking some of the pressure off of yourself, working within a collaboration while demonstrating humility for a better outcome. Remember no one person has all of the answers. This also can lead to the other indicator that you’ll Never Stop Learning.
Take some time, and do your own check, and see how your IQ sits within these first few indicators as mentioned. Maybe you are well on your way to being highly intelligent.
