Sharing My Personal Endometriosis Story, Is Also Therapy

Endometriosis: Sharing my experience is good for me

Womens Mag. Contributor: Ninfagaleano

ENDOMETRIOSIS is a painful disorder in which the tissue that lines the uterus grows outside the uterus, creating a generalized imbalance in the female reproductive system. After suffering horrible symptoms that directly affect my quality of life I decided to make the pertinent medical consultation and I was diagnosed with ENDOMETRIOSIS. Today I want to tell you how ENDOMETRIOSIS interferes with my daily life.

I hope this will help all women who suffer from the same thing, to consult a doctor as soon as possible. That doesn’t solve the problem, but at least it makes it more manageable.

My quality of life

ENDOMETRIOSIS makes painful, certain activities that are essential in our daily lives. I suffer intensely during the following daily situations:

  • I feel pain during urination.
  • I feel pain during menstrual periods. Pain during menstruation is called dysmenorrhea.
  • During my menstrual periods I bleed too much.
  • Painful sexual intercourse. Sex is not pleasurable for me. I find it uncomfortable.
  • All my life I have suffered from nausea, diarrhea, constipation and chronic fatigue because of ENDOMETRIOSIS.

These circumstances impoverish my quality of life. The doctors told me that the definitive solution is to have my uterus removed (hysterectomy) and also to have my ovaries removed (oophorectomy). The pain I feel is so intense that I am going to undergo both surgeries to stop suffering for good.

Giving up biological motherhood

I am going to undergo an ooferoctomy and a hysterectomy to stop suffering from the pain caused by ENDOMETRIOSIS. Obviously I will not be able to be a mother biologically, but in the future I will adopt children to become my own children. Endometriosis causes infertility in most cases, but thanks to sophisticated medical treatments many women have been able to become mothers.

If you suffer from endometriosis, consider all the possibilities: not having children, having children thanks to assisted fertility treatment or adopting children. The important thing is to think carefully before making a final decision.

I decided to adopt children in the future because I have already suffered too much physical pain throughout my life.

Assisted fertility treatment is physically, mentally and emotionally draining. That is why I prefer to adopt children. If you wish to have biological children, have faith in science and medicine.

Many women suffering from endometriosis have become mothers.

My search for help

As soon as I received the diagnosis confirming that I suffer from ENDOMETRIOSIS I decided to consult a psychotherapist to help me deal with this situation. ENDOMETRIOSIS causes me guilt, uncertainty and a lot of fear. Fortunately my therapist guides me so that I can feel at peace with myself as I go through this disease. Although I am going to have surgery so that I don’t feel pain anymore, I still go through periods of sadness.

To overcome it, I try to lead as active a life as possible, doing what I like: working, studying, traveling, going out with friends, etc. I also try to sleep as much as I need to have enough energy during the day.
