Boudoir Photo Shoot – An Unforgettable Journey

Article by – Lucy Walters

I’m about to turn 65… People often tell me I look younger, but I still struggle to accept the changes I see in the mirror. I take care of my skin and work out, but time keeps moving forward. I remind myself that age is just a number, but it’s not always easy to believe it. Sometimes, it’s tough to see things from a different point of view.

For a long time, I viewed aging as something to fight against, rather than something to embrace. I rarely shared my real age with others.

Is Age Just A Number?

I was about to find out if I truly believed what I’d been telling myself and others.

My husband surprised me with a boudoir photo shoot, saying it was to celebrate my 65th birthday, and the beauty that he sees in me. I’d always been curious about doing one, but the idea of sharing something personal with a stranger behind the camera lens made me nervous.

To manage my nerves, I focused on the excitement of trying something new and reminded myself that stepping out of my comfort zone could help me grow. I also felt self-conscious about being photographed.

In the end, I agreed, but only if my husband joined me in some of the photos so I would feel more comfortable.

With only a month to prepare for the photo shoot, I decided to put more effort into my routine.

I already like working out and eating well, but this time I wanted to challenge myself even more. I thought, why not train and eat as if I’m getting ready for a special event? After all, it’s not every day I get to do something like this.

As the day drew closer, I was surprised by how much I found myself thinking about it. What should I wear? How do I pick the right style? I wasn’t even sure what a “Boudoir Vibe” meant. All these details started to make me feel anxious.

What Is A Boudoir Session?

But as I worked through my worries, I realized a boudoir session is about feeling empowered, loving yourself, and building confidence. It’s not about competing with anyone else. Ultimately, I discovered that a boudoir session is unique for every person. It’s all about celebrating what you love most about yourself.

Self-love is what they call it. I found this part of preparing for the boudoir session challenging. I needed to create a list of what I love about my body, and then select five outfits that accentuated those qualities.
I opted to have professional hair and makeup on the day of the boudoir shoot.

It really helped me look and feel my best, and getting pampered was the perfect way to calm my nerves and anxiety before the shoot. It also allowed me to discuss my feelings and expectations with my photographer.

Once my hair and makeup were done, we headed to the back of the studio and planned out which outfits I would wear at each part of the photoshoot.

Photoshoot Time! and my nervousness was spiking.

The photographer guided me through each pose, helping me relax and feel more at ease. Trusting your photographer is key to having a great photo shoot. I reminded myself to step out of my comfort zone, let myself go, and enjoy the experience.

After a few looks from the back of her camera, I started to see what she was seeing…

I remember thinking that I looked HOT! and didn’t want the session to end. Although I initially felt apprehensive, the confidence I gained as more photos were taken was remarkable.

My Boudoir Photoshoot Was Officially Done!

A week later, the photos were ready, and the Boudoir Image Reveal was scheduled. I was excited to see my photos; would they be as good as I imagined them to be?

Here is what I thought after seeing them – Wow!!!!

Never in my life have I seen photos of myself that I have loved! By sharing this experience, I hope to inspire other women to explore this opportunity for self-discovery and empowerment.

If you’re considering a boudoir shoot, go for it – it’s more than a photo shoot; it was truly an unforgettable journey for me.
