“According To The Moon” Explores Creative Duality and Celestial Harmony in Ethereal New Album by Cheryl B. Engelhardt and GEM
Ambient Sonic Meditation
When New York-based GRAMMY®-nominated composer Cheryl B. Engelhardt and Australian producer-artist GEM first began collaborating across time zones and hemispheres, they weren’t just exchanging musical ideas – they were embodying a dance of opposites.
Their upcoming album, According To The Moon, is a sonic meditation on duality: distance and connection, light and dark, structure and improvisation. Drawing inspiration from the phases of the moon and composed during potent celestial events, the album emerges as a deeply reflective, healing body of work that honors the power of contrast.
The two artists – each with distinct approaches and sensibilities – found harmony in their differences, assisted by multi-GRAMMY-award-winning producer and mix engineer, Lonnie Park who co-produced and mixed the record.
Rounding out this female-fronted team is multi-GRAMMY Award-winning mastering engineer, Jett Galindo.
Yin & Yang
Engelhardt’s classical and film scoring background, rooted in the organic textures of piano and voice, complements GEM’s intricate electronic landscapes and experimental layering. From studios in Sydney and the French Alps to creative bursts in Los Angeles and New York, their collaboration became a living embodiment of yin and yang – opposites while in balance.
Even their presence mirrors this contrast: GEM, with bright blonde hair and an ambient sound palette, meets Cheryl’s dark brunette energy and New Age and neo-classical compositional style. Their union – visually and musically – presents an integrated whole, where contrast becomes cohesion.
Healing Emotions
According To The Moon – features the lush strings of the Billboard-charting Dallas String Quartet, on more than half the tracks, weaving depth and resonance throughout the album. Additional collaborators include pop singer-songwriter Robin Tucker and GRAMMY-winning vocalist and sound healer Johnaye Kendrick, a member of the acclaimed vocal group Säje.
Together, this ensemble offers a multi-dimensional listening journey, that evokes emotions from deep stillness to elevated joy.
Music In Creative Relationship – Eclipse
Composed during solar eclipses, solstices, and supermoons, the music is timed not just to celestial events but to human ones – the slow unfolding of a creative relationship, the back-and-forth of artistic trust, and the quiet revelation of something entirely new. Releasing on the summer solstice, June 20, 2025, According To The Moon closes a year-long cycle of creation, with an offering that invites listeners into their own inner cycles of transformation, reflection, and peace.
This album isn’t just music – it’s a mirror to nature, a celebration of contrast, and a testament to the harmony that emerges when we lean into the power of difference.
